i fail to see why they decided to choose to release it now when they had
neglected to do so for the entire life of the show and with a shitty release to
boot...

how do know this is their first attempt, knowitall??
maybe this is their first time they were the first to release it.

it may not be their first attempt, but it's their first attempt that has been
released into the wild for people to see - and in this case, disparage.
as you said, i know it all. plus i did research (nfo repositories etc) before
making my statement.
it matters not if they've attempted it secretly in the past but only if they've
actually released it.
therefore my statement holds true unless someone proves me wrong.
