why is eztv no longer listing hr releases of the new seasons? for example for
shows like the csis or bionic woman or heroes?

that's exactly what i'm wondering too! i'm looking for hr releases for the new
season of stargate atlantis, heroes and bionic woman.

as the picture and sound quality is better than the 350mb files.

can anyone help?

there have been a few threads along this vein recently. i think, in a
nutshell, that the scene decides what to cap and in what format. it's
basically got nothing to do with eztv. they only post what is current,
available and popular.

scene did cap hr rips. its just eztv is too busy to handle the exta load. look
around the net you'l find your hrs, genuine, just not eztv certified.

most of them come in rar parts, just like any other scene releases

please let them come back

we didn't bother with the heroes hr as the hd was 700mb, and our site was being
hammered, so we saw no need and didn't release it.

i'm still on sd tv so hr has no meaning for me (960 x 540 = unsupported resolution)

the usual sd caps look fine on my tv by the way

the people who have lcd's/plasma's can support (x264) 1280 x 720

so the hr "middle of the road format" basically is not a choice for sd users and
a low quality choice for hd users

it makes sense to me hr versions are dropped in favour of hd versions

regular rip = 350mb

hr rip = 700mb

h264 rip = 1gb

obviously, hrs are way more popular since they are smaller, therefore downloads
quicker. plus it has ac3 audio.

another thing, xbox mc cant play h264 rips. so most of us would rather go
for hr versions.

while we're on the subject, what is the relatively entry-level spec required to
decode the 720p x264 encodes? (with coreavc of course)

specifically, the machine in question is an old athlon 1800xp, so would you
need to step up to a 2500xp barton for example, or would something like a
2200xp be acceptable?

a general guide would be good too, in terms of cpu ghz or 'rating' required.

cheers

have you viewed a hr or 720p rip on a sd tv? i run xbmc through my sd vega and
i can see a huge difference between a 350 hd file, a 700mb hr file and a 720p
file. even though my sd tv does not support the resolutions natively nor does
xbmc play the 720p video smoothly, the quality difference is very obvious. and
like stated, i prefer the ac3 audio on the hrs.

i wasn't even aware they ever put up hr releases. and before people start
responding with examples when eztv put up hr releases.. i'm being a little
sarcastic here if you can't already tell.

i've always felt, at least as far as the eztv crew is concerned, that hr
releases are only necessary if there is not a good version of the regular hdtv
releases. so as such, there is no need for people to ask why hr releases
aren't being listed anymore.

the answer is simple.. the regular 175 or 350mb releases are amply sufficient.

for those of us having widescreen sd tvs and surround setups the 960x540 5.1 ac3
hr-releases were just perfect. i hope they are coming back!
