would it be better if x264 was simply used for all release, not just hd ones?

there are many hardware players that can handle xvid.
this is not the case for x264 and/or non "standard" resolutions.

um, i meant having more 350mb and 175mb releases in x264, not more 720p x264,
do you know if using x264 for all release would be best?

same argument stands - the hardware players can't do x264, even at standard
resolutions.

as far as efficiency goes, x264 would be *very* slightly* better image
quality/compression at "standard" resolutions, but not enough to be worth
bothering with.
the gains only really become worthwhile with bigger sizes.

i think you mean many software apps can\'t play it (vlc can, though) because
video codecs are a
software thing, its not like the cpu will overload.

and if it is better, your saying you shouldn\\\'t bother using the slightly
better
codec, just bother with the slightly worse one?

dvd players, is that what you people meant, not pcs!?.well then other than
those minorities who want to play there content on dvd players, x264 is in fact
much better, so there is no reason not to switch.

you would be suprised how large the minority really is.

it\'s the scene\'s choice as to what they convert and how they do it.

i would be happy if there were more widescreen releases. some of these shows
are being released in fullscreen when there is the same show in widescreen.
x264 i dont think is a huge difference. seems like the only x264 shows being
released are the 720 res and are massive files. im sure if they were encoded
in xvid, it would be the same size. pixels is what matters really.

of course it would be the same size, resolution, frame rate, and audio aren't
compressed.the picture quality within the video is what would be much better in
x264.

there are loads of h264 players. what there is a shortage of is standalone mkv
envelope branded players.
current h264 player include = ipods, xbox360s, apple.tv, playstation3, psp
slim/lite, can all output h264 to tvs but not all will allow mkv only mp4.
plus there are users who can send the feed direct to thier tvs via a/v
output(like above).
xvid may not support hd but divx hd1080p branded players are.

just joined the forum today. i have connected my pc and my plasma and
therefore
am looking forward to those x264 encoded episodes.

problem is, i couldn't even find them in the newsgroup. also, i've been using
this site for more than two years and i didn't realise that there are certain
torrents that are not posted here.

well, i did find some x264 postings somewhere else tonight and am trying to
download them now. i love those 700mb xvid episodes and the x264 ones. they
are much better than the 350mb ones. at least most of them have dd5.1 and the
sound quality makes a huge difference.

if possible, please post those x264 torrents. thanks a lot.
