agreed aussiemadmum. some isps are certainly more vigilant against torrents
and will be more likely to send those ugly mpaa letters to ones email. other
isps know their loyalties lay with their customers and claim ignorance when
hasseled by the mpaa et al.

so on that note yes, before signing up to any isp check out what other
customers have to say at whirlpool - its a great resource. obviously always
check the terms and condidtions of any plan u want to sign to - some isps wont
allow you to connect to torrents at all - though i dont think unavailability of
pipe services neccessarily indicates this ... but i suspect it probably makes
you stand out as a bt user if you cant utilise pipe (but thats just my theory).

must say i dont recall ever having seen a soul isp peer listed in my utorrent
peer tab. here is a good international bad isp list at azureus wiki ... though
i dunno how up to date it is.

http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/bad_isps

hope this helps some users choose a more suitable internet provider.

i can comfortable say nz has you all beat in the bad broadband stakes.

though luckily my account (though no longer available to new customers) is quite
good really data wise (unlimited) except from 5pm-midnight where there is a
700mb cap but ul is only 128kbps and dl never goes above 3-4mbit.

how come you used hxxp instead of http?

because there is an auto script what removes the url (as you can see with your
entry). so to overcome that, change the address by adding in a space, or
replacing characters.

by the way, don't abuse the loophole, otherwise the admins will give you a kick
up the ass

also, how would i determine the isp?? some app that traces ip? i'd like to be
able to compare actual speeds available to some of the other aussies i connect
to for the shows i d/l...?

thanks

im not exactly certain what it is ur asking here, but i'll take a stab anyway.

i think you are referring to how i know what isp im connecting to with my bt
client?
well i only use utorrent so i dunno how much info other clients offer, but in
utorrent if you click on a torrent ur downloading, switch to the "peers" tab
and wait a bit for the info to download .... u will see that a flag will appear
next to each peer and the ip addresses will change into some other address
thingy with alittle more detail (i dunno what its called actually) and it often
shows the isp and sometimes even the state of the peer. did that help?

again, check out whirlpool broadband forums for the best discussion regarding
aussie isps ... there are reps there from all the isps to answer questions, and
many reviews from customers, with each isp having its own forum section ...
plus much more valuable info for those looking for a provider.

only lists 3 providers for aussie, and none of them is telstra or optus, so
methinks it is out of date

what state are you in? from what i can understand from ven's explination is
that the piping only works in your state.
