because they are *old* shows. this site, in particular, is about fast distribution of new first airings of shows. torrents, as a whole, aren't terribly good at maintaining availability of archives of older stuff. their primary function is to get big, new, files out to as many people as possible in as short a time as possible. due to the nature of the protocol and the way it's organised, availability of upload sources tends to drop off quickly over time. for long term access to archives of older stuff other protocols are better suited - things along more `traditional` peer to peer lines, like edonkey, fast track, gnutella, etc based networks and their various client apps. they tend not to be as fast as bittorrent, but items mostly stay available a whole lot longer. however - that being said ... there are a number of websites that act as "indexes" of lots of other torrents and torrent sites. they don't really address the problem of sources disappearing over time, more that they are good at allowing you to find what *is* out there pretty efficiently, because a lot of content tends to get re- published as new, albeit short lived, torrents rather frequently. try isohunt.com as probably the best example. |

don't forget usenet newsgroups alt.binaries.* carries repostings of requested shows, as a last resort. the free xnews client at xnews.newsguy.com is a decent simple client. news file reader h**p://www.rsbr.de/software/nfg/index_eng.htm handles recovery from missing parts. many isps place limits on download speeds and usage, and/or don't carry *binaries* newsgroups at all. |
