so is this actually a spin-off of torchwood? certainly sounds like it.

it may be partially based on a sound of thunder, a poorly conceived time
travel thriller that bombed in the usa 2 years ago.

highly unlikely. a sound of thunder was a short story written by bradbury back
in the early 50s and is now the precursor to modern time travel fiction. yes,
the movie that was made recently wasn't a very good iteration, but it followed
the core parable-esque aspects of the original short story. that anyone could
call it "a poorly conceived time travel thriller" just screams illiterate in the
basics of sci-fi literature. more books, less tv/movies kids.
and there's no way in hell this show is based on a sound of thunder. the basic
premise behind the original is that simply entering into the past completely
alters the present/future. primeval is nothing more than an adventure series
with little to do with classic sci-fi. i see little connection with
torchwood/doctor who, mostly because it didn't completely suck ass. and the
budget was clearly higher (at least for the pilot).

weird. this show has the same name as a new movie that's coming out called
primeval and it was about a serial killer which is actually a giant alligator
killing people. stars the dude from prison break. i thought it was this for a sec.

tvb pearl (china) is a free television service in hong kong that mainly
broadcast in the english language. primeval will premiere on tvb pearl at
10.30pm ,on the 14 february 2007, only 4 days after the u.k. premiere

ummm, technically h.g. wells the time machine would be the precursor to modern
time travel, not sound of thunder (though sound of thunder has more elements
evident in today's time travel stories).
will take a look at this, i still have to check out torchwood (some people like
it some hate it so i should give it a try and form my own opinion, be it good or
bad). and i can handle a lower budget (as long as you don't see the strings
holding up a spaceship =p), after all, not everyone has a hollywood type budget
and it's nice to get some non-us shows

[us] my bad. [uk] oh bugger.
sorry. i don't know all the sites to look things up. i googled it and only came
up with imdb's primeval movie site.
entering "primeval" into google does find the show - the eighth entry down is
the official site mentioned in a few other posts - so you actually had it but
must have given up before you got to that one.

hey! hannah from s-club has always been a good actor, you cheeky get.
apologise now. she is lovely.
and there are lots of shows to be proud of in britain, torchwood isn't one of
them. we should pretend torchwood is belgian.

or pretend it's welsh?
(for the record, i like torchwood well enough, for a lo-budget spinoff that's
also an x-files ripoff.)

i could care less about the budget. it's not going to
change horrendously bad
writing, or even worse acting.
actually, that's not true. if they could afford to hire decent writers and
actors, it might not be as shit as it is.
it's got nothing to do with whether it's from the uk or the us or mars. it's
because the show is shit. nothing more.
normally i see a rant like this and think to myself "come on it's bad but it's
not that bad". for a change i find myself agreeing with your wee rant,
torchwood is shockingly bad. the acting is average, but the writing is
horrendous. i hope primeval reaches greater heights. we just don't seem to
be any good at making serial sci-fi here in the uk so i think we should stick
to what we're good at, drama and leave the sci-fi to the us.
